The key aspects

The key aspects of hockey training and hockey drills are balanced training, free weights, and plyometrics. These will allow you to use and maximize your muscles that you didn't even know that you have. Balance training and plyometrics can be developed at home. You can train them thru self-help instructions. You can use your backyard or basement for your hockey drills. But before you do so, it is a must to follow the basic such as warming up. Warming up is necessary before going through hockey drills. This prepares your body to an extensive training.

Hockey Drills at Home

Among the basic warm up exercises that you can do is jogging, feet hockey drills like butt kickers, high knees can make your body ready for a more extensive workout. These can importantly prevent you from getting injuries. After you have finished warming up, you can go on to the hockey drills. Among the drills that you can perform at home are the side to side and front to back hops over an object. Also, any kind of sprints, quick turns; stops and starts are excellent. To enhance speed, bounding is a good drill. This can separate you from a chasing defender.

Easy hockey drills also includes pushing a wheelbarrow. You can place a weight on it then walk or run with it for a couple of minutes. This can help build up your core, making you stronger on the puck.

Another effective drill that you can perform at home is dragging a sled or an old tire. Wrap a rope connected to a sled or tire onto your waist and drag it.

This can build power to your legs. If you are in the gym, you can get rid of the machines and hit on the free weights. You don't play hockey seated right? So, it is recommended that you work out this way.

More than these hockey drills, another good exercise yet one of the hardest is squatting. Don't you know that squatting hockey drills are more important than weights? Yes, lifting heavy weights improperly cannot benefit you much as this can even lead to injury. Virtually, all exercises that are performed by machines can be done with dumbbells.

So, lifting dumbbells and including it in your hockey drills are better as this forces you to employ more muscles and stabilize weight. This in turn will result to an improved overall strength.

The clock is ticking...

As a hockey coach, there's nothing more valuable than time. Between work, family and juggling practice - there's no wonder we have little time to properly plan hockey practice.
